MBCI’s story began in 1976, when A.R. Ginn and his partners set out to make something different in the metal building industry. From day one, hands-on leadership, disciplined decision-making and an unwavering commitment to quality and customer service shaped the company’s direction; laying the groundwork for decades of growth.

THE EARLY YEARS OF MBCI IN HOUSTON, TEXAS
There is a particular kind of momentum present in an operation’s earliest years. It often exists before expansion, brand recognition or national reach. For MBCI, that momentum began in Houston, Texas, inside a small facility with a tightly connected team and a shared commitment to doing the work the right way.
Leadership was present on the floor, not removed from daily operations. Team members understood each other’s strengths and responsibilities. Performance, accountability and pride in workmanship defined the early environment. This operational focus shaped the foundation of what MBCI would become.
LEADERSHIP ROOTED IN OPERATIONS EXPERIENCE
MBCI’s founder, A.R. Ginn, built his leadership philosophy through years of hands-on operations experience. He understood the processes required to produce high-quality metal products and recognized the long-term value of personalized service.
This background directly influenced MBCI’s commitment to its customers and product standards. Success was not treated as an abstract goal. It was earned through discipline, consistency and respect for the people closest to the product. These principles became embedded in how the brand operated and made decisions.
MBCI’S FOUNDING IN 1976: A DEFINING FINANCIAL LESSON
In 1976, A.R. Ginn, his brother, and their business partners founded MBCI in Houston, Texas. The brand began operations in an 8,000-square-foot facility as a small metal components business.
The first month ended with a $4,000 loss. This early setback became a defining lesson and was central to MBCI’s origin story. The brand was not built on perfection. It was built on persistence, responsiveness and the ability to learn quickly and adapt.
BUILDING MOMENTUM THROUGH PRODUCT INNOVATION
By 1977, MBCI’s progress indicated that its early success was sustainable. Within five years, the brand was no longer focused solely on production. It was beginning to establish a long-term presence in the industry.
This period marked the start of MBCI’s history of product innovation. One of the earliest examples was the introduction of a snap-together trapezoidal standing seam roofing system. This solution was developed in response to the needs of installers, owners and builders, helping them work more efficiently and effectively.
Innovation at MBCI was driven by real-world use cases rather than experimentation for its own sake.
INVESTING IN IN-HOUSE TESTING AND QUALITY CONTROL
That same year, MBCI expanded its commitment to quality by building a state-of-the-art testing facility at the Hardy plant in Houston. The facility included an authorized replica of a UL test chamber and a working FM test chamber model, both of which are still in use today.
With these capabilities in-house, MBCI no longer relied on outside testing providers. Products could be evaluated against high standards from the beginning of the development process. Quality Assurance became an internal responsibility rather than a final checkpoint.
A PEOPLE-FIRST FOCUS ON INNOVATION
MBCI’s growth during this period was not driven by expansion alone. It was guided by responsibility, reliability and relationships. Employees were treated as central to the brand’s success.
Since 1982, MBCI has led the metal building industry through continuous innovation. Introducing advanced standing seam roofing systems, expanding into diverse product lines, and delivering high-performance solutions are only a few of the many early innovations in MBCI’s legacy. From energy-efficient metal panels to data-driven operational advancements, MBCI remains focused on providing solutions that help customers build with confidence.
Key Highlights:
• Curated an assortment of exposed and concealed fastener panels suitable to service customers for commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential applications
• Expanded product offerings with Artisan® Series, agricultural and architectural lines, and retrofit solutions like NuRoof® and NuWall®
• Introduced high-performance standing seam systems such as Double-Lok™, Ultra-Dek® and BattenLok® HS panels
• Evolved and strengthened operational excellence through data-driven insights to ensure better delivery of the right materials when needed for customer orders.

DEFINING MOMENTUM THROUGH PURPOSEFUL DECISIONS
MBCI invested early in innovation, brought quality control in-house and structured its operations to better serve customers while creating opportunities for employees. Forward momentum was not defined by a single event. It was built through decades of deliberate decisions made with purpose.
