Today’s building design and renovation requires sustainability and building performance remain at the forefront. Increasing energy efficiency while reducing energy and maintenance costs are key drivers for a building design’s success. MBCI offers a variety of products conducive to sustainable building. From our Cool Roof coatings, our recyclable metal roof and wall panels and highly energy-efficient insulated metal panels, we have a building’s performance in mind. Additionally, you will find resources for LEED project documentation, Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations.
The Advantages of a Metal Building for Your Green Project
Whether your goal is to achieve LEED Certification or develop a sustainable structure, MBCI is committed to assist with your green project. From agricultural to commercial products, MBCI offers a wide assortment of environmentally friendly products to help you achieve your construction needs.
At MBCI, we take LEED project documentation seriously and issue only project-specific documentation for USGBC submittals, so please contact your sales representative for LEED documentation on existing contracts. If you are looking for general LEED information for the purposes of guidance, please review the chart below. For LEED v3 general information, see our LEED v3 chart. For LEED v4 general information, consult the Environmental Product Declaration, Life Cycle Assessment and Cool Roof sections below.
MBCI is actively involved in the development of LCA data for our core products since LCA first started appearing in green building standards. We have cooperated with the Metal Construction Association (MCA) in efforts to develop industry average data for cold-formed metal cladding systems and insulated metal panels (IMPs). The LCA is ISO 14044 compliant and was third-party reviewed. The report can be downloaded from MCA.
MBCI has EPDs using the LCA results above in conjunction with the MCA for the same core products: cold-formed metal cladding systems and insulated metal panels. They were developed in accordance with ISO 14025 using a third-party reviewed Product Category Rule, or PCR.
Cool Roofs are roofs with coatings that have known radiative properties that are specified in order to keep the roof surface temperature lower than it would have been with uncoated or traditional roofing materials during peak sun times. For specific information about the radiative properties of our colors, consult our listings in the respective databases on the CRRC and Energy Star websites.
MBCI’s products can be used to implement Net-Zero Energy strategies in two ways: One, by providing roof and wall systems with excellent thermal and radiative performance, especially by using IMPs; and two, providing the best possible surface to host a photovoltaic (PV) array: a metal roof.
