Case Study

Open year around, the West Cobb Aquatic Center in Powder Springs, Georgia, provides both indoor and outdoor pools with services ranging from lifeguard training, water safety instruction and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The 18,000-square foot center has eight 25-yard lap lanes, a diving well and a shallow pool. Home to the local swim team, the Stingrays, West Cobb is more than just an aquatics facility; it brings together people of all ages to develop a strong community.

Problem

Following major improvements made to other aquatic centers, West Cobb Aquatic Center received renovations that included painting the interior, the pool resurfaced and a new Pool Pack HVAC unit installed, along with the Paddock Evacuator Benches and other needed repairs. The main concern was the roof, which needed to be replaced. Being an indoor aquatic center, air quality was a top priority. To achieve the best quality possible, the center decided to go with metal roofing panels.

Solution

MBCI worked with Moreland Altobelli Associates to design the roof for the aquatic center. 19,400 square feet of MBCI’s 24-gauge Insulated BattenLok® was supplied in Pacific Blue with a Signature® 300 finish.

This metal panel was chosen because of the energy efficiency benefits along with the panels providing the needed insulation to maintain the air quality. The Insulated BattenLok® roof panel resembles MBCI’s BattenLok® single skin standing seam roof panel, which provides a clean, architectural aesthetic, as well as its high insulating capabilities.

Moreland Altobelli Associates from Marietta, Georgia, designed the project and S. Garret and Company of Carrollton, Georgia, worked as the general contractor.
