Case Study In 2009, Farmington, Utah, welcomed Legacy Junior High as a state-of-the-art school that provided students with a place that limited the stress of being an adolescent while boosting confidence. Legacy Junior High was designed with flexibility in mind for Farmington’s growing population of 17,000. Problem This school is the result of a lively collaboration of players including teachers, students and the community. The District began by establishing a group to define a program for a completely new and different facility. Following the design meetings, the committee created several goals for the new building. Many of the goals included encouraging collaboration, creating community and enhancing educational space. Solution VCBO Architecture of Salt Lake City designed the project and Hogan & Associates of Salt Lake City worked as the general contractor. VCBO worked with MBCI to supply the metal panel accents around the building. MBCI supplied 139 square feet of their exposed fastening metal panel PBU in Galvalume Plus® and Signature® 300 finishes. Colors ranged from Laurel Green to Tundra. MBCI also provided 69 square feet of their Artisan series panel in Tundra with a Signature® 300 finish. Legacy Junior High also incorporates a perforated metal wall panel in Laurel Green. PBU offers the versatility of being used in both vertical and horizontal applications to give designers a contemporary appearance for their building project. The simplicity of the Artisan® Series soffit is its best design feature. Uniform dimensions and a clean appearance allow the designer to plan modules, eliminate complicated pieces and follow wall curvatures. Metal cladding highlights the building exterior, creating sinuous green forms that are sophisticated yet “hip” enough to intrigue the age group served by the facility. The space provides a striking setting for students and visitors to gather, eat and socialize. PBU in Laurel Green was also installed in the interior of the school providing a cohesive look and blended atmosphere from the exterior to the heart of the building. The selection of metal building panels for this project was motivated mainly by the need to bring an exciting signature spark of color to the building materials palette, along with the economy and durability of the product.
