Residential Metal Roofing

Residential metal roofing has become increasing popular in the last few years, and for good reason, too. There are a number of benefits for choosing metal roofing for your home, including aesthetic improvements, energy efficiency, low maintenance and more.

Why Choose Metal Roofing?
MBCI’s metal roofing solutions come in a wide variety of colors and profiles. Most of MBCI’s metal roofing panels are ENERGY STAR qualified colors and are considered cool metal roofing colors. A cool roof can reduce the energy consumption of a home, providing significant cost savings for the homeowner.

There are many types of residential metal roofing systems, including standing seam roof systems, concealed fastener roof systems and exposed fastener roof systems. Nearly any design appearance can be achieved when using metal. Each of the panel systems and panel profiles provides a unique aesthetic look. MBCI or your trained professional contractor can help you choose the metal roofing system right for you and your roof design.

Metal roofing typically lasts between 40 to 60 years and requires minimal maintenance throughout its lifespan compared to the 8 to 12 year lifespan of asphalt shingles. The lifecycle costs of metal roofing are also substantially lower than other forms of roofing. Metal roofing also stands up very well in harsh weather. It will not absorb or be damaged by water and will shed ice and snow in the winter.

Metal roofing can usually be installed over an existing asphalt or fiberglass roof. It weighs less than 1.6 pounds per square foot and will not normally over load the existing roof.

Oftentimes people are concerned about whether or not a metal roof is noisy. Residential metal roofing is usually installed over plywood and felt or an existing roof. Therefore, the sound generated by rain or hail would be similar to other roofing materials.

Lower Insurance Premiums for Metal Roofs
Properly installed, metal roofs can achieve a UL90 wind uplift rating, a Class A external fire exposure rating and a Class 4 Impact (hail) rating. Many insurance companies offer homeowners a significant discount on their Homeowners Insurance because MBCI’s panels meet these stringent ratings, which add durability. Information on Fire Resistance and Impact Resistance can be reviewed at the UL website at www.ul.com. Certificates are available from MBCI. For all testing data can be found here. Discounts and eligibility does vary from state to state. Please check with your insurance agent for potential discounts.
