To install a metal roofing system that met the challenges expressed by Bridges Center.Building needed to be environmentally friendly
Building needed to be friendly to the neighborhood
Building needed to express the nature of the work being done inside, which included youth development, education and team building
MBCI worked with architectural firm buildingstudio, general contractor Jameson Gibson Construction and metal roofing installer John D. Norman Company, all of Memphis, to complete this architecturally pleasing building.
A requirement of the first challenge, the need for an environmentally friendly solution, included the incorporation of photovoltaic (PV) materials. The design accomplished this by attaching the PV panels seamlessly to the metal roof with pressure clamps on the standing rib without making unwanted punctures to the roof membrane. The choice of a reflective surface was also ideal for avoiding the creation of a heat sink, alleviating heat island conditions common in urban areas.
The building proved to be neighborhood friendly and appealed to its residents while also complementing the landscape. The architectural metal panels used for Bridges Center were unpainted Galvalume Plus®. This added to the natural look of the building.
The architectural design was unique and met the challenge of conveying the message of building bridges, as one can tell when looking at the structure. As a side benefit the unpainted Galvalume Plus helped enforce the look and feel of the building as a bridge, the name of the organization.
This project met all of the challenges and the architecture of this building was pleasing to everyone, which allowed all who were involved the achievement of success.
